Two women injured in Innwa Bank attack in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On January 12th, 2024, the Kyike Hto based joint revolutionary forces traveling in two trucks attacked junta’s security forces guarding the Innwa Bank in Kyike Hto Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.
Two civilian women sustained injuries and a member of the junta’s militia group was killed during the shooting incident, according to a local rescue team.

HURFOM: Since January 10th, 2024, the military junta has targeted villages under the control of the 1st Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army, Karen National Union in Thaton Township, Mon State.
Constant artillery attacks have forced nearly 400 villagers to flee their homes, according to a statement by the Thaton District Karen National Union.

HURFOM: Since December 27th, 2023, military junta operations in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division have burnt down houses and arrested numerous villagers.
Some victims were released but at least ten villagers have lost contact with their family members as of today.

HURFOM: The armed conflict between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army and the People’s Defense Force has lasted more than 50 days, stretching from November 30th, 2023 to January 15th, 2024.
Local residents from nearly 20 villages have experiencing forced relocation, property destruction and loss of innocent lives, torture and extortion, lack of education opportunity, insufficient health service and food shortage.

HURFOM, Second Week of January 2024
In conflict-torn Southeastern Burma, civilians are seeking refuge and urgently needed protection from the ongoing bombardments by the military junta. Across target areas of the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), including Mon State, Karen State and Tanintharyi region, those displaced continue to rise as offensives intensify.
For example, in Mon State, nearly 3,000 local people in Thaton District, who have been fleeing the war for almost a month due to the fighting, require emergency assistance, including basic food, medicine, shelter, blankets, and warm clothes, which are urgently needed. Since December 13th, the fighting between the two sides has intensified since the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) blocked and attacked the junta’s Win Tar Pan camp based in Bilin.

HURFOM: The military tension in Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State has been on-going for the last 40 days. On January 9th, 2024, the military junta battled with the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army and the People’s Defense Forces in downtown Kaw Ka Rate.
Three internally displaced persons (IDP) who were from Ward #6, had returned to their homes to collect household items when they were shot. Two died, while the third sustained an injury.

HURFOM: On January 8th, 2024, a military regiment entered Nyaw Pyin village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division and burnt down more than 100 houses.
The military regiment burnt down about ten houses belonging to plantation workers in Phoe Phoe Kyoud Beach and then entered Nyaw Pyin village. The regiment arrested ten villagers and burnt down more than 100 houses.

HURFOM: The armed clashes in Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State which started on November 30th, 2023, continues up to today, forcing more than 40,000 residents from 30 nearby villages to flee from their homes.
The junta launched military attacks in an effort to take back control of the Kaw Ka Rate – Myawaddy Asia Highway, and on January 8th engaged in a battle with the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army.

HURFOM: On December 28th , 2023, a military regiment entered Lay Toon Khan village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division and arrested some villagers. One of them was found dead on a pomelo plantation near Yet Thane village on January 7th, 2024.
“Ko Hla Tun Win suffered from a stroke and he had a mental illness. Those who were arrested with him were released. But he did not return home at the same time, he simply disappeared,” said a Lay Toon Kan villager.
The dead body did not have a gunshot wound and no one knows the cause of death.
“The body had significantly decayed when we found it. It looks like he died four days ago,” said one of his relatives.
The military junta terrorized residents in Long Lone Township beginning on December 27th , 2023 to January 6th , 2024, by burning down 30 houses and arresting villagers.
