Junta’s artillery attack kills plantation worker in Thaton

HURFOM: On April 27th, 2024, the military junta targeted Dar Yoe village, Da Nu village tract, Thaton Township, Mon State with indiscriminate artillery attacks and killed a plantation worker.
According to a statement by the Thaton District Karen National Union (KNU) the 402nd Thaton-based artillery regiment launched two artillery attacks targeting the village. An artillery explosion killed 67-year-old T Yoe, a native of Naung Bo village who worked on a betel nut farm in Dar Yoe village.
“The junta has been launching artillery attacks both day and night in Thaton. The attacks started in early April. Some villagers have fled their homes. Most have to hide in bomb shelters upon hearing the sound of an artillery attack,” said a Da Nu villager.
On April 27th, the junta also targeted Kaw Hline village with an artillery attack and burnt down 15 acres of rubber plantation, stated the Thaton District KNU.
The military junta has been targeting villages in Thaton and Bilin Townships even though there has been no active armed clash, creating fear amongst villagers.
