Two Pa Ngyit villagers arrested 7 months ago have disappeared while in custody

HURFOM: On February 23, 2023, the military junta arrested two villagers from Pa Ngyit village, Long Lone Township, Dawei District, in Tenasserim Division.

34-year-old Ko Myo Kyaw Kyaw and 36-year-old Ko Thet Aye were arrested by the junta on their way to work in San Hlan village and have not been heard from for more than seven months.

Livelihood in Ye is getting tougher as electric bill reaches nearly 2,000 MMK per unit

HURFOM: People in Ye Township, Mon State must buy electricity distributed by private companies who charge very high fees.

Southern Myanmar Development Company (SMD) and Myat Thura Company, both private electricity providers, recently announced that they would begin to charge 1,750 or 1,800 MMK per 1 kWh respectively. The new fee rates begin in September, 2023.

On September 14, 2023, there was intense fighting between the joint forces of the military junta and the Border Guard Force (BGF) and the Karen National Liberation Army fighting alongside the People’s Defense Force.

Number of IDP suddenly rises in Kha Lell – Dagon Die and food is urgently in need

HURFOM: On September 13, 2023, the military junta and its Border Guard Forces (BGF) launched an attack on villages in the Kha Lell – Dagon Die area, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State.

The artillery battalion based in Ah Bit village, Mudon Township, Mon State also launched an artillery attack which destroyed houses and forced villagers to flee from their homes.

On International Peace Day, HURFOM expresses our ongoing concern for the plight of the people who have been displaced from their homes and separated from family members due to ongoing conflict in their villages. Decades of prolonged civil war in Burma have denied pathways to justice for the thousands of victims and survivors. Five residents arrested after family of a retired lieutenant colonel was shot

HURFOM: On September 8, 2023, the family of a retired lieutenant colonel, U Aung Lwin were shot by unknown gunmen. His wife was shot and died at the scene, and his son sustained a serious injury.

The family lived in Bu Tar Road, Taung Thu Zu Ward, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.
