Five residents arrested after family of a retired lieutenant colonel was shot

HURFOM: On September 8, 2023, the family of a retired lieutenant colonel, U Aung Lwin were shot by unknown gunmen. His wife was shot and died at the scene, and his son sustained a serious injury.

The family lived in Bu Tar Road, Taung Thu Zu Ward, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.

U Aung Lwin routinely reported on those involved in the revolution via  his telegram (pro-military social media) account.

The military junta quickly tightened security in Kyike Hto Town after the family was shot.

After collecting CCTV records from the nearby Za Bu Aye Beer Bar, the military junta arrested five residents.

After collecting CCTV records, the junta arrested taxi driver Ko Bala. They also arrested a married couple on Bu Tar Road and two young men from Northern Ward,” said a Kyike Hto resident.

The five arrested residents have been detained and interrogated at the Kyike Hto Police Station.  None have been released as of today.

The military junta also launched operations on the  Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road and in Kyauk Pi village, Kyike Hto Township which resulted in more villagers being arrested.
