Thousands of Kha Lell – Dagon Tie villagers run away from military operation

HURFOM: On September 12, 2023, the Burmese military entered Kha Lell – Dagon Tie area of Kyarinnseikyi Township, in Karen State. Villagers responded by running away. This is the fifth time that the military has launched an operation in the area.
“The villagers took shelter in monasteries and in nearby villages. Some villagers couldn’t take anything because they fled immediately. Now we’re in need of food,” said a villager.
The military unit has now occupied Kha Lell village and is stationed in houses and schools. More than 1,200 villagers fled their homes.
After taking control of Kha Lell village, the military destroyed houses and looted valuable things. Due to the current situation, 20 schools from nearby villages closed.
As of today, there are nearly 200,000 internally displaced persons in the area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the 6th Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
