Armed groups extort money from rubber plantation workers in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: Local people have reported to HURFOM that armed groups active along the Thanbyuzayat – Ye Highway Road have been extorting money from rubber plantation workers.

According to the sources, each plantation worker had to pay 30,000 MMK.

30,000 MMK per worker – They gave us a receipt saying we must show the receipt when another group checks us. I think it’s an annual fee,” said an extorted rubber plantation worker.

With so much injustice and no reliable pathways for accountability and justice, the war is only worsening. Against all odds, civilians have remained resilient at the cost of their survival. They are on the run constantly and refuse to see the junta as any measure of humanity.

Junta launches military operation in Nyin Maw and loots villagers’ houses

HURFOM: On December 13th, 2023, the military junta destroyed and looted villagers’ houses in Nyin Maw village, Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.

About 50 troops invaded the village arriving in five Vigo cars at midnight. They proceeded to  steal gold, cash and other valuables, reported villagers.

At least 70 residents arrested within a week in Thanbyuzayat

December 14, 2023

HURFOM: From November 30th to December 7th, 2023, at least 70 residents including business persons in Thanbyuzayat Town, Mon State were arrested by the junta.

On November 30th, while doing a “stop and check” in Thanbyuzayat, junta forces arrested 44-year-old U Mya Than, for possession of a pistol and some bullets. The same night  U Ta Yoke, owner of “Hey Ma Won” a construction material store, was also arrested.
