KNU’s chair and members sued for disrupting or destroying election

HURFOM: On November 5th, 2025, the military junta announced they will sue the Chair of the Thaton District Karen National Union Pa Do Saw Soe Myint and 21 party members allegedly for disrupting or destroying the election.
The Thaton District KNU announced on September 10th that they would oppose and destroy the junta’s sham election.

The Thaton District KNU Secretary Pa Do Saw Aye Nile who is one of the members sued by the junta responded, “We don’t care about their charge. Their election isn’t legitimized. We’ll do what we should do.”
On September 24th, the junta also sued the KUN Chair Pa Do Saw Kwel Htoo Win and 12 other members. Both lawsuits fall under Act 23(A) which includes the potential for seven-years imprisonment.
On November 5th, 65-year-old U Kyaw Myint from Kwan Right village, Chaung Zone Township, Mon State was arrested and accused of destroying the signboard of the list of election candidates.
According to the junta’s law, breaching the aAct 23(B) can result in a monetary fine or imprisonment from five to ten years.
