Woman sustains serious injury after stepping on landmine

HURFOM: At about 7 am on November 6th, 2025, 45-year-old Naw Thein Win was walking to her plantation.   She stepped on a landmine and sustained a serious injury.   Naw Thein Win is from Mell Lan Kyaung village, Mell Lan Kyaung village tract, Bilin Township, Mon State.

She went to her plantation to clean the bushes. The landmine debris penetrated her entire body. The injury is serious. The villagers sent her to the Bilin Hospital,” said a Mell Lan resident.

Naw Thein Win has been receiving treatment at the Bilin Township General Hospital.

The Karen National Union, the junta-controlled Karen Border Guard Force and the People’s Defense Force have been active in the area where the landmine exploded. None of them have offered any comment about the explosion.

According to the ICBL, since the military coup began in 2021, Burma has become the country with the greatest number of victims injured or killed by landmine explosions.
