Junta launches military operation in Nyin Maw and loots villagers’ houses

HURFOM: On December 13th, 2023, the military junta destroyed and looted villagers’ houses in Nyin Maw village, Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.
About 50 troops invaded the village arriving in five Vigo cars at midnight. They proceeded to steal gold, cash and other valuables, reported villagers.
“We were not at home last night. Because we were working at our farm, we slept at the hut there. We learned what happened after we returned home. The cupboards in our house were destroyed and they searched the house from top to bottom,” said a Nyin Maw villager.
The junta forces destroyed and looted 26 houses, stealing 146.88 grams of gold and 13 million MMK in cash. They had also seized eight motorcycles and tricycles. In some cases, ID cards were also taken.
“As soon as they entered the house, they ordered the owners to go outside. Then, they searched the house and took everything with them,” said another Nyin Maw resident.
This is the first time such a large number of troops have entered the village and residents fear for their lives, property, and safety.
