HURFOM: On January 26th, a regiment with 100 Burmese troops launched military operations in Taung Pyauk Region, Tha Yet Chaung Township forcing residents from Wat They, Pa Khat, Ram Mzu, Tha Yet Ngote, Lake Kyel Pyaung, Thin Gan Tone and Wa Gone villages to flee their homes.

HURFOM: On January 26th, 2024, a civilian from Zin Bar Ward, Mottama village, Paung Township, Mon State was shot and killed by a police officer from the Mottama Region Police Station, according to the locals.

HURFOM: On January 24th, 2024, the military junta attacked villages in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State. There were no armed clashes taking place and a local woman was injured and two houses were destroyed.
A regiment had launched a military operation based from the Ah Nyar Zu village, Wall Township, Pegu Division that sent at least ten artillery attacks to villages on the Sit Taung bank in Kyike Hto Township. The artillery shells exploded in Win Kan and Chaung Wa villages.

HURFOM, Fourth Week of January 2024
As the first week of the year comes to an end, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) continues to observe an increase in the atrocities being perpetrated by the military junta across Southeastern Burma. Civilians have been attempting to return to their daily lives as much as the current circumstances permit. Still, it has been incredibly challenging, given the rising presence of soldiers in local villages. In recent months, particularly towards the second half of 2023, the Burma Army lost many military bases. In retaliation, the junta has been punishing local people with their usual tactics of isolation, fear and intimidation.
Displaced villagers unable to return home as military operation persists in Kyikemayaw

HURFOM: There have been no armed clashes in the Chaung Hna Kaw region, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State but a military operation persists and armed groups have stationed themselves in the villages. As a result of this tension displaced villagers are unable to return home.

After the clash, local military bases recklessly and indiscriminately launched artillery attacks on nearby villages that killed a 12-year-old girl from R Yu Taung village.
