HURFOM: There have been no armed clashes in the Chaung Hna Kaw region, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State but a military operation persists and armed groups have stationed themselves in the villages.  As a result of this tension displaced villagers are unable to return home.

More than 200 junta’s troops are scattered around villages in the Chaung Hna Kaw region.  Soldiers are stationed at the police station in the eastern Taung Kalay village, according to the locals.

Displaced villagers from the Chaung Hna Kwa region have not returned home yet. Both the People’s Defense Forces and the military junta are active in the village so they’re unable to go back home. They’ve taken shelter at nearby monasteries,” said a villager from Kyikemayaw Township.

However, other sources told HURFOM that some displaced persons from Taung Kalay, Kyune Yaw and Ka Nar Low villages have returned to their homes.

We dare not go to the eastern village and go outside. The situation in the western village is quite stable. Two-thirds of the population of the village are back home,” said a Taung Kalay resident.

The homes of those displaced in Chaung Hna Kwa, Taung Kalay, Mell Ta Yoe and other villages were burgled and valuable things including motorbikes and cars were stolen.

Nothing is left in some houses. Six motorbikes were stolen in Mell Ta Yoe. Cars were stolen. Lots of motorbikes were stolen. They took everything, even the clothes,” said one villager.

The conflict in Chaung Hna Kwa region, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State has gone on for more than two months. Residents and displaced villagers have faced various hardships over this time.
