Police officer  conducting surveillance kills  civilian in Paung Township

HURFOM: On January 26th, 2024, a civilian from Zin Bar Ward, Mottama village, Paung Township, Mon State was shot and killed by a police officer from the Mottama Region Police Station, according to the locals.

The officer and two police staff invaded 30-year-old Ko Aung Nine Win’s house without an arrest warrant at midnight. He was shot and killed by the officer while trying to run away from his house.

The couple was selling illegal lottery tickets and they already paid monetary bribes to the police. But the police members invaded their house without notice. They both tried to run away and the husband was shot and killed. The entire village is angry (with the misconduct of the police officer),” said a Mottama villager.

Ko Aung Nine Win died on the spot and his body was sent to the Mottama General Hospital. His family members have been trying to have his body returned.

They do as they like as they have guns. Both of the couple were calm and peaceful. Now, the village Abbot and the entire village have planned to file a report to the State government,” said a resident from Zin Bar Ward.

The same police officer killed a “Kraton leaf” seller from Mottama Kywe Chan village on December 31st, 2023 while trying to capture him.
