Two children killed and at least six injured by junta’s air assault in Tha Yet Chaung

HURFOM: On May 8th, 2024, the military junta targeted Ka Net Thiri village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division with a brutal air assault killing two children and injuring at least six other children.

After the military base in Tha Yet Chaung was attacked and captured by resistance forces, the military junta responded with an air assault on Ka Net Thiri and Ya Ngae villages.

Mon State faces electricity and water shortage

HURFOM: Local villagers reported to HURFOM that since March, 2024, Mon State has been experiencing electricity shortages and villages in townships across the State have also been experiencing water shortages.

The military junta announced in 2023 that electricity would be delivered six hours a day in Mon State but in reality, electricity is only available for two hours a day.

Arbitrary arrests and abductions by the military junta continue to threaten the local livelihoods of innocent people. The surge in enforced disappearances comes amid the forced conscription enactment across the country. Since the Burma Army announced the People’s Service Law would go into effect, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) has found ongoing rights violations being perpetrated in target areas of Southeastern Burma.

Junta sends 50 youth in 2nd batch for compulsory military service

On May 3rd, 2024, the military junta sent nearly 50 young men to the advanced military training school in Well Ka Lee village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State.  These young men will undergo military training as the second batch facing compulsory military service.

Bomb detonates on bridge:  Truck driver injured in Thaton

On May 4rth, 2024, a bridge near the Da Dar Oo village, Thaton Township, Mon State was targeted for detonation by an armed group.  The explosion injured a truck driver, according to a local emergency and rescue team.

Junta claims compensation from local villagers for three cars destroyed by resistance forces

On May 3rd, 2024, three cars owned by the military junta were destroyed by the resistance forces at Ka Doe Sate village, Kaw Dut village truck, Ye Township, Mon State.  Junta representatives told the Administrator that the local villagers must pay compensation in the amount of 30 million MMK for the damage.

Two young boys arrested and extorted by police forces in Mottama

On May 6th, 2024, two young boys from Kwel Chan village, Mottama Town, Paung Township, Mon State were arrested by local police, and then security forces threatened them to pay a ransom for their release.

Entire Taung Zun village flees from armed clash

May 8, 2024

HURFOM: On April 7th, 2024, the Karen National Liberation Army and its alliance forces attacked the 284rth Light Infantry Battalion based along the Three Pagoda Pass – Thanbyuzayat Motorway near Taung Zun village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State.

The battle was prolonged, lasting until May 3, 2024 and nearly 2,000 residents had to flee from their homes.

Fear grips villagers from military aircraft patrols

HURFOM: On May 3rd, 2024, resistance forces attacked a military base in the Kalar Gote Island, Lamine Sub-township, Ye Township, Mon State, and there was an intense battle between the two sides.

The military junta responded with both artillery and air assaults and damaged some houses in Ka Doe Sake village, Kaw Dut village track.
