Long Lone PDF beats an elderly woman with bamboo stick

HURFOM: On July 19th, 2024, an elderly woman from Tha Bot Sake village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division was beaten with a bamboo stick by the Long Lone People’s Defense Force.

The PDF accused the woman and her husband of supporting the military-backed political party – Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and expelled them from their house in December, 2023.

After eight months, the couple returned home and soon after their return, the Zone #1 leader of the Long Lone PDF Ko Soe Soe came to their house and beat the woman with a bamboo stick, according to a family member.

“They accused my father of supporting the USDP and expelled our parents from the house for eight months. After they returned home, four PDF members came home on two motorbikes and beat my mother with a bamboo stick. They also were about to beat my father,” said the daughter.

The woman sustained injuries, and they have filed a report to the officials with the Long Lone PDF for justice.

“We want to stay at our home. They expelled us and beat my mother. I’m not satisfied with their actions,” continued the daughter.

In July, the Long Lone PDF also arrested two local men from Yebyu village after accusing them of stealing money. The PDF also forcefully shut down a monastic school in the village.

HURFOM has documented that the PDF also threatened a local reporter who wrote a news report about the incident.

“Officials phoned me and pressured me to delete the news. I refused initially, but they said it’s just a personal request. So I deleted the news. Later, they ordered a group to surveil me. I won’t flee as I did nothing wrong,” said the reporter.

The Long Lone PDF is an armed revolutionary organization operating under the National Union Government – NUG. This branch of the national PDF is active in Long Lone Township. They have also extorted money from the local villagers.
