Four residents injured by landmine within two weeks in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: In Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, three local men and one local woman had stepped on landmine within two weeks and sustained serious injuries by the explosion.
On August 22, 2024, 30-year-old Ko Soe Thein from Yel Ta Gon village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State stepped on a landmine while he was chopping firewood in a rubber plantation nearby the monastery.

HURFOM: On September 1, 2024, the military junta has raided boatyards in Shwe Pyi Thar and Aye Yeik Nyein Wards, Kaw Thaung Town, Tenasserim Division and arrested ten middle-aged men.
“The military arrested ten middle-aged men who were working at boatyard in Shwe Pyi Thar. The son of a boatyard owner is also among the arrested. In this morning, they’ve tried to pay money for his release but the military denied the request,” said a local source.

HURFOM: On August 27, Dawei Watch, a news agency based in Myeik, reported that two of its journalists have been sentenced to life imprisonment and long-term prison sentences by the military junta. Myo Myint Oo, one of the journalists, received a life sentence, while Aung San Oo was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The harsh sentences were imposed for their reporting activities.
