Junta shoots and arrests four young men in Paung

HURFOM: On September 2nd, 2024, the military junta had shot and arrested four young men from Tha Bue Chaung village, Paung Township, Mon State after accusing them of being the members of the People Defense Force.

A group of local young men were drinking alcohol at the market of Tha Bue Chaung village while about 20 soldiers and police members came to shoot and arrest them at 8 pm.

They came to arrest young men who were drinking alcohol at the market. The young men run away and they started to shoot them. One of the young men was shot and injured. Then, four young men were captured while some of them escaped,” said a Tha Bue Chaung resident.

20-year-old Maung Super Htaw has sustained an injury at his tight and he and other three young men were arrested by the junta.

They are not PDF members. They are just ordinary villagers. The junta created a story to arrest them. Now, their parents have been negotiating with the village administrator (to request the military) to release them. But they haven’t reached any agreement yet,” said another Tha Bue Chaung resident.

The arrested young men have been detained at the Paung Town Police Station and the injured young man has been admitted to the Paung Township General Hospital.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), as of September 3rd, 2024, more than 27,300 civilians were arrested by the military junta and approximately 21,000 of them has still been detained.
