Family members traveling by car critically injured in landmine incident

HURFOM: At about 10:30 am on June 12th, 2025, a car carrying four family members struck a landmine on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road near Daung Taung village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State. All the passengers sustained serious injuries.

HURFOM: The junta’s barrage of bullets and bombs continues to be dropped from the skies, leaving thousands of conflict-affected communities, already deeply traumatized by the war, paralyzed in fear as they run for their lives. Airstrikes are occurring more frequently and without any warning, further heightening the distress and growing sense of insecurity among villagers. In the targeted areas of Mon State, Karen State, and the Tanintharyi Region, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) is alarmed at the increase in airstrikes being deployed by the Burmese military. HURFOM condemned this escalation in a statement on 11 June.
On June 9th at 2 PM, at least six civilians, including three children, were killed when junta aircraft dropped bombs on Pai Yap village in Kawkareik Township, Karen State. Witnesses reported that five bombs were dropped, causing significant destruction.

On the evening of June 12, 2025, junta forces stationed at Light Infantry Battalion No. 545 in Kyon Doe and additional troops based near the Gyaing Bridge launched an indiscriminate artillery attack that struck a civilian home in Kaw Baw village, Kawkareik Township. The house was hosting a funeral at the time of the shelling.
According to local villagers, the heavy artillery shell directly hit the house where the funeral was being held, killing seven civilians, including five members of the same family. Among the victims were two young children.

HURFOM: On the evening of June 11, at approximately 5:30 PM, junta forces based in Bilin Township launched an indiscriminate artillery attack that struck Aloo Gyi village, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to at least three others. Local sources confirmed to HURFOM that the shelling was unprovoked and occurred in the absence of any active fighting in the area.

According to local reports from Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division, soldiers, police and members of local militia units, and village/ward administrators are even raiding houses to make arrests of the owners of unlicensed motorbikes.

The Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) strongly condemns the ongoing airstrikes being carried out against innocent civilians by the military junta. In targeted areas of Southeastern Burma, including Mon State, Karen State, and the Tanintharyi Region, the Burmese Army has frequently deployed airstrikes and ground assaults that have deliberately aimed to instill fear and uncertainty among the unarmed and most vulnerable.
On June 9, at 2 PM, despite no ongoing clashes, at least six civilians, including three children, were killed when junta aircraft dropped bombs on Pai Yap village in Kawkareik Township, Karen State. Five bombs were dropped directly onto the area, causing significant destruction. One of the bombs hit a house being used as a classroom, where students were attending lessons. Among those killed were three young children, a female teacher, and two other residents. Thirty-five others were injured.
