HURFOM: On October 4th, 2024, the military junta arrested eight residents from Paung Township, Mon State, accusing them of being the members of the People’s Defense Force.
Since their arrest, there has been no trace of them, according to the sources close to family members.
The junta conducted a “stop and check” on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road nearby Zin Kyike Town, Paung Township and arrested 14-year-old Maung Aye Chan and 19-year-old Maung Kaung Myat Soe both from Oak Tan Dar village, accusing them of being PDF members.

Across target areas of the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), including Mon State, Karen State and the Tanintharyi region, the junta continues to deploy terror tactics to discourage support for the resistance. Since the attempted coup in Burma on 1 February 2021, the military has used violence as a retaliatory response to the widespread uprisings and condemnation of their failed power bid. Social relief organizations and humanitarian aid workers have been primarily targeted.
On October 9, the junta charged three members of the ‘Pai Shin Mae’ Emergency Rescue group in Thanbyuzayat, Mon State, under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The members, including the group’s chairman, U Ye Min Htike, along with Ko Win Kyi and Ko Too, were arrested on the night of September 18 at 9 PM and have since been prosecuted under Section 50(j) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The Ye-Thanbyuzayat Road part of the 8th Union Highway Road is currently controlled by the joint resistance forces and the military junta has launched military operations in order to regain control alongside the road.

Because the pests were discovered late in the rainy season, farmers have not had time to replant new paddy plants and the destruction has resulted in massive cost.
