Junta tightens security after the Southeast Command attacked

HURFOM: On the evening of November 16, 2023, the Southeast Military Command based in Ya Khine Gone village, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State was hit by a bomb dropped by a drone.

After the attack which was attributed to the revolutionary forces, the military junta tightened its security in Mawlamyine and began to stop pedestrians and check their ID cards and mobile phones, reported a local source.

Junta aggressively tightens security at Dawei City entrance

HURFOM: On November 18, 2023, a military regiment entered Mu Du village in the Dawei Special Economic Zone, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division. They arrested nearly 50 villagers and torched houses, reported local residents.

Two children injured by artillery attack in Kyikemayaw

HURFOM: On November 17, 2023, the military junta launched indiscriminate artillery attacks targeting villages in Kyikemayaw Township.   One artillery shell exploded in Mee Twe Gone village, injuring two children, reported local sources.

A weekly update by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) on the situation on the ground. Summary data includes Mon State, Karen State and Tanintharyi region.

As the conflict intensifies across Burma, civilians in the Southeastern part of the country also continue to face immense threats to their safety. Women and children are among the most vulnerable who have been routinely displaced. Their security is not guaranteed in IDP camps or temporary shelters as military aircraft can be heard circling above with the possibility of an attack imminent. There is trauma and widespread uncertainty as families struggle to cope amidst worsening circumstances.

Junta’s plan of “forming local militia group’ fails

Ten houses looted and burnt after two military units invade Long Lone

HURFOM: Between November 8th to the 13th, 2023, two military regiments invaded Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division and burnt down approximately ten houses in the township. The regiments also looted valuables from the homes, according to the local sources.
