Junta aggressively tightens security at Dawei City entrance

HURFOM: On November 15, 2023, the military junta installed more barricades at the “Pouch Tie Bridge” check-point, which is the entrance of Dawei City, Tenasserim Division. The junta is aggressively interrogating pedestrians, report local sources.
“Before, they just asked “Where do you go? Where did you come from? What do you do?”. It isn’t serious. But now they stop and check motorbikes and phones and they even search our bodies. They are aggressive when checking the youth,” said a local resident.
The check-point has about 20 soldiers and they are mainly targeting young people.
“They detained one person for nearly an hour at that check-point. Now, they’ve barricaded themselves with more sand bags,” said a local woman from Tha Yet Chaung Township who experienced a “stop and check”.
Local people reported to HURFOM that since the Northern Brotherhood Alliance ‘1027’* military operation, (*refers to October 27) the military junta has aggressively tightened security in both Mon State and Tenasserim Division.
