Fruit plantation owners suffer a huge loss due to security concern

HURFOM: On June 15, 2023, the joint revolutionary forces announced they now control the Thanbyuzayat-Ye-Dawei Highway Road. Soon after that announcement, the military junta increased their military operations in Southern Ye Township. Junta’s troops have established bases from Maw Ka Nin to R Yu Taung villages in Ye Township.

Artillery attack in Kaw Ka Rate kills  resident and injures three

Situation Overview

The safety and well-being of civilians in Burma remain under attack due to unrelenting attacks by the military junta. Protection of those at risk, including the most vulnerable, must take precedence. Calls from civil society organizations, including the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), are adamant that pro-democracy forces on the ground must be supported. This includes trust and cooperation with local organizations to facilitate cross-border humanitarian assistance.

Despite the numerous reports and ongoing human rights documentation providing evidence of the junta’s widespread crimes, the international community remains slow to act with the urgency required. It was announced this month that the UN Special Envoy to Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, is leaving her post after a twenty-month posting. Ultimately, she was unsuccessful in her bid to halt the offensives being perpetrated by the junta.

Junta arrests two residents in Paung Township under Anti-Terrorism charges

HURFOM: On June 2st  and 22nd, 2023, in two separate incidents the military junta arrested a man and a woman from Paung Township, Mon State.

At 10 am on June 21, 2023, the junta’s security forces stopped and interrogated travelers on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road.  One of those they stopped,   Saw Yan Aung from Ka Don Si Ward, Paung Town allegedly had shared activities of the National Unity Government and the People’s Defense Forces on his social media account via his mobile phone. He was arrested.

Junta gives monetary compensation to victim of artillery attack

June 27, 2023

HURFOM: On June 16, 2023, the 310th artillery battalion based in Thane Za Yet Twon, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State launched artillery attacks targeting the community.  One women was  and four people were injured in Ward #1.

On June 17, officials from the artillery battalion and the Thane Za Yet General Administration Department visited the deceased victim’s house and gave a monetary compensation of 300,000 Kyat.

A CEC member of MUP criticizes military junta for manipulating Mon politics

HURFOM: The Mon Unity Party (MUP) has applied for their registration under the new electoral law approved by the junta. There has been no reply or update from the junta controlled Union Election Commission. There are worries there may be a misunderstanding regarding the registration, according to a central executive committee member of the MUP.
