Junta’s regiment arrests two local men and only releases one

HURFOM: On August 29th, 2024, a junta regiment entered and launched a military operation in Htein Twin village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division via both land and sea routes.   The regiment arrested two local men and burnt down two boats.

The arrested were 30-year-old Ko Tin Maung Htay and Ko Aung Phyo.  Junta’s soldiers also destroyed empty houses of displaced villagers.

Ko Tin Maung Htay was released in the evening of that day. The regiment spent a night at the village and left on August 30. They took Ko Aung Phyo with them,” said a Htein Twin villager.

The soldiers seized two mobile phones belonging to Ko Tin Maung Htay and four mobile phones from other villagers. A “Vigo” truck and a lorry truck were also seized by the troops.

When entering the village, the regiment also arrested residents from other villages. They were beaten severely and couldn’t walk well,” said a Htein Twin resident.

On August 26th, the military junta launched an operation on Pyin Htein village, Long Lone Township, searching 15 residential houses from top to bottom. Then, they seized mobile phones, money, driving licenses and ID cards. They also arrested a local man.

They seized mobile phones from every house along the roadway that they entered. Some house owners were beaten as they were slow in opening their doors,” said a Pyin Htein villager.

Local sources reported to HURFOM that the arrested Pyin Htein villager was released at noon on September 1st, 2024,
