HURFOM: On February 28, 2021, during his live broadcasting about a protest in Phep Khin Ward, Mawlamyine, the Chief Editor of the Mon State based Yarmanya Times News Agency, Ko Lin Tun, was arrested by police forces. The incident took place at about 1 pm.

Press rejects pressure from military council to not use term –“military junta”

HURFOM: On February 11, 2021, the military council controlled the Ministry of Information informed the Myanmar Media Council not to use the term “military junta”, rather to use “State Administrative Council”.

Activist say MUP should not join military council

HURFOM: Activists in Mawlamyine, are critical of the Mon Unity Party (MUP) decision to join the newly created military council.  They argue the MUP is a political party that has been elected by the people, and as such does not have any legitimacy to join the military council.
