Military junta breaches NCA

March 15, 2021

HURFOM: General Yawd Ser, Acting Leader of the National Ceasefire Agreement signed by Ethnic Armed Organizations (NCA-S EAO), says the military council created after the February 1 coup, has breached the NCA.

During a two day meeting of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) held on March 11 and 12, 2021, the General highlighted  the military’s brutal  crackdown on peaceful protests that has resulted in over 60 deaths and seriously injured scores of citizens.  The junta has also conducted arbitrary arrests, detentions and placed armed forces based at monasteries, schools, universities and public areas. In addition,  the military council has repeatedly approved laws that do not benefit the people.

“Representing the PPST, I would like to say these are terrible acts, which violate the NCA,” said the General.

Following the PPST  meeting, signatories to the NCA had a dialogue with the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and other stakeholders, to discuss options to ease the current political crisis.

General Yawd urged all EAOs to cooperate with all ethnic peoples to eliminate the military dictatorship and to build the Federal Democratic Union.
