Civilian severely injured by junta’s unprovoked artillery attack in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On August 10th, 2024, the 310th artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yet targeted Ah Khine village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State with artillery attack and severely injured a 27-year-old young man. There were no armed clashes taking place in the area.

Half of displaced persons from Taung Zoon villages unable to return home

HURFOM: On April 7th, 2024, a month-long armed clash between the military junta and the resistance forces in Taung Zoon village, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State left 3,000 residents homeless due to the artillery attacks and the air assaults by the junta.

Although there have been no more armed clashes, half of the displaced villagers have not returned, fearing that the junta has planted landmines and may attack again.

25 Burmese workers returned by Thai authority arrested by junta and forced into compulsory military service

August 14, 2024

HURFOM: On July 30th, 2024, the Thai authority sent back 152 Burmese migrant workers who had finished serving a penalty for illegal entry into Thailand. The workers were dropped at Kaw Thaung seaport, Kaw Thaung Town, Tenasserim Division.

Among the workers, 25 young male workers were arrested by the Chief of the Kaw Thaung Immigration Department, and the military junta forced into compulsory military service, according to a local source.

Three elderly residents injured in a battle in Pu Law Township

August 13, 2024

HURFOM: On August 8th, 2024, a battle between the military junta and the joint resistance forces nearby Mee Laung Chaung village, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division and the 17th Light Infantry Battalion, injured three elderly residents.

An artillery explosion injured 70-year-old U Phoe Kyar, his wife Daw Q Aye, and another 70-year-old woman.

Junta pursues and arrests young men claiming compulsory military service

HRUFOM: Since the first week of August, 2024, the military junta has been arresting young men in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State claiming they are on the compulsory military service list.  As a result of the junta’s pursuit for conscripts, many young men have fled from their homes.

Junta’s artillery attack kills a civilian in Pa La

August 12, 2024

HURFOM: On August 5th, 2024, the joint resistance forces attacked the junta’s troops in the military check-point in front of the Pa La Town Police Station in Pu Law Township, Myeik District, Tenasserim Division.

The police station responded with indiscriminate artillery attacks and the attack killed 24-year-old Ko Zaw Win Htut who was native to Pa La Town.

Young man arrested in Kan Bauk

HURFOM: On August 4, 2024, a young man from Zar D village, Kan Bauk area, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim was arrested by the military junta.

A local villager reported to HURFOM that a 20-year-old Ko Than Htike from Yaw Ma Ward, Zar D village was arrested by the junta’s troops who were hiding near the bridge between Zar D and Khaung Pyan villages.

Junta’ air assaults killed 14 civilians in Kyarinnseikyi Township

August 12, 2024

HURFOM: On July 19th, 2024, the military junta launched an air assault despite no armed clashes in the Kyaw K O area, Dar Le village tract, Kyarinnseikyi Township, Karen State. The air assault killed 14 civilians and injured four villagers, according to Saw Nanda Sue, the Advocacy Coordinator of the Karen Human Right Group – KHRG.

The junta’s aircraft dropped a 500-pound bomb and the bomb exploded near a monastery. The bomb explosion killed five men and nine women and injured four other villagers.
