Junta’s soldier suspected of raping and killing his lover

HURFOM: Daw Chit Chit Htoo, aka Htoo Htoo worked as a primary school teacher from Mu Kwel village, Chaung Zone Township, Mon State

On September 8^th, 2024, she raped and killed by her lover Aung Thu Hein who is also a soldier with the military junta.

On September 1^st, the 26-year-old teacher visited her lover who had sent a taxi to bring her. She disappeared for eight days after that, her family said.

On September 8^th, her dead body was found near a firewood forest, 50 ft away from “Dat Paung Su” Pagoda in Mu Kwel village. The body showed evidence of stab wounds.

“There were two stab wounds near her pubic area and there were bruises on her arms and thighs. She was suffocated with a black sling bag, which was found around her neck. It also looked like she was raped,” said a villager from Mu Kwel village.

A bayonet of a G3 rifle was found near the body, which was sent to the Chaung Zone Township General Hospital with the assistance of a local rescue team yesterday.

“The necklace, ring and earrings of the teacher are missing,” said a source close to the victim’s family.

The Chaung Zone Police Station interrogated the taxi driver who came to bring the teacher but no one has been arrested for the murder of Daw Chit Chit Htoo.
