HURFOM: At about 8 pm on September 4th, 2024, the security forces stationed at the “Pan Taw” security gate in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division beat and arrested 30-year-old Ko Myoe Myint Nine.
Ko Myoe Myint Nine is from Tha Yet Hna Kwa village. He was stopped by security forces while traveling to Tha Yet Chaung Town. The forces claimed they found a lottery paper produced by the National Unity Government in the toolbox of his motorbike.
According to a witness, he was accused of supporting the NUG. The security forces beat and arrested him, then they took him to the 404th light infantry battalion based in Tha Yet Chaung Township.
“Tha Yet Chaung Township has three security gates – a gate between Shin Mote Htee and Nyaung Zin, Shwe Gu Khar Gate and Pan Taw Gate. Among them, Pan Taw Gate is the worst,” explained the witness.
On September 6th, 2024, Ko Myoe Myint Nine was released on bail of 1.5 million MMK.
The military junta stationed at these security gates routinely conduct arbitrary arrests of civilians, sexually harass women and extort money from local villagers and travelers.
