Plantation owners and workers extorted for as much as 20,000 MMK

HURFOM: Since October 5th, 2024, plantation owners and workers from eight villages in Kan Bauk region, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division have been extorted for up to 20,000 MMK for a required recommendation letter issued from the Mawrawaddy Navy Command and from particular Administrators.

HURFOM: On October 17th, 2024, the village Administrator of (10) Mile village, Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division expelled a local woman from the village after claiming she is the mother of a member of the People’s Defense Force.
The son of the 50-year-old woman joined the People Defense Force after the 2021 attempted coup.

HURFOM: Between October 5th and 15th, 2024, six residents from Ye Township, Mon State were arrested by the military junta after being accused of having contact with the People’s Defense Force.
Maung Pone Chit from Chaung Taung village was arrested on October 5th while Ma Aye Chan and Ma Ngae Nage from Aung Mittar Ward, Ye Town were arrested on October 9th. All were arrested by the junta at their homes.

HURFOM: On October 4th, 2024, the military junta arrested eight residents from Paung Township, Mon State, accusing them of being the members of the People’s Defense Force.
Since their arrest, there has been no trace of them, according to the sources close to family members.
The junta conducted a “stop and check” on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road nearby Zin Kyike Town, Paung Township and arrested 14-year-old Maung Aye Chan and 19-year-old Maung Kaung Myat Soe both from Oak Tan Dar village, accusing them of being PDF members.
