HURFOM: At 10 pm on November 19th, 2024, joint forces of the military junta arrested 20 young men from three “cobble production companies” in Sin Yaw village, Paung Township, Mon State and forced them into conscription.
“The 20 workers from cobble production sites were arrested in a single night. They all are young men. The junta claimed they’re eligible to conscription and arrested them,” said a source close to the military junta who wants to remain anonymous.
The young men are being detained at the Mottama Regional Police Station and will be sent to military training within a few days.
The mass arrest has sparked a new wave of fear in Paung Township, with young men preparing to flee from their villages.
“We’ve never experienced this kind of arrest. Some young men have already fled. This is the first time we have witnessed a mass arrest, so no one can handle the situation,” said one resident.
A few days ago, the military junta laid charges against two young men from Mottama Kywel Chan village, Paung Township at the Mottama Regional Police Station after accusing them of attempting to avoid conscription.
