Ambulance attacked — Driver and patient sustain injuries in Thaton

HURFOM: At about 8 pm on March 27th, 2024, an ambulance struck a landmine and was shot at while traveling on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road near Ka Mar Sai village, Thaton Township, Mon State. The driver and a patient sustained injuries.
The ambulance owned by the “Ah Kyin Nar Twelve Let” Social and Rescue Team was transporting a patient from Thaton Hospital to Yangon General Hospital.

Injustices in Southeastern Burma are Ongoing as Enforced Disappearances Increase Alongside the Junta’s Illegal and Unjust Forced Conscription Law
Young people and their families in Burma awoke to devastating news in February 2024 following the junta’s announcement that it would begin enforcing mandatory military service for all men aged 18-35, and women aged 18-27 must serve for up to two years. The declaration followed a trajectory of losses by the Burma Army, notably in Karen and Karenni States as well as in Chin, Kachin and Shan States. These factors combined with the ongoing defections of high-ranking commanders and soldiers, as well as many troops surrendering to ethnic revolution organizations. The law mandating conscription was initially introduced in Burma in 2010, though it was never enforced.

HURFOM: At about 4 pm on March 27th, 2024, the military junta’s aircrafts were dropping bombs into Dhammasa village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State, and two navy ships also launched artillery attacks on the village. The aerial and navy attacks burnt down nearly 300 houses out of 350 houses in the village.
“We’ve fled to Mawlamyine and we’re safe here but our house in the village was burnt down. We have no home to return but we can do nothing,” said a displaced person from Dhammasa village.

HURFOM: On March 25th, 2024, the military junta arrested a young man from War Kha Ru village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State after accusing him of providing monetary support to the People’s Defense Force.
20-year-old Khant Min Thu was arrested at his home in the evening.

HURFOM: On March 22nd, 2024, the military junta arrested a local man from Shan Zu village, Ah Lu Lay village track, Bilin Township, Mon State and then shot and killed him, according to local sources.
The junta accused 33-year-old Ko Shein Ko Ko of running away while being detained and shot him. He died at the spot.

HURFOM: On March 24rth, 2024, local residents found a body with a gunshot wound in Nyaung Zin village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.
The body was of a middle-aged woman, and was found in a paddy field behind the railway station in Nyaung Zin village.

Thousands of Kaw Bane residents flee due to growing military tension
HRUFOM: On March 25th, 2024, the joint revolutionary forces attacked and took control of the police station in Kaw Bane village, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.
The military junta had reinforced their troops to fight against the revolutionary forces and the local villagers reported HURFOM about 100 troops had entered Ta Ra Nar village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State and stationed themselves at the village.

HURFOM: On March 24th, 2024, the joint revolutionary forces attacked the Kaw Bane Police Station in Karen State and a heavy battle ensued.
The junta responded with artillery attacks and air assaults, killing and injuring local villagers.
“The air assaults damaged the roofs of houses. There have been at least three casualties or injuries but we can’t confirm the exact number as we can’t go outside,” said one resident.
