More than 6,000 residents flee home in Tenasserim Township

HURFOM: On April 23rd, 2024, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the resistance forces in Thane Naw village tract, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division. The incident forced more than 6,000 residents from seven villages to flee thier homes.
Due to the junta’s artillery and air attacks, 6,232 residents from Thane Naw, Yay Bu, Tha Htay Ah Shay, Tha Htay Ah Nout, Mine Tat Tu, Ban Pyae Ah Shay and Ban Pyae Ah Nout villages fled their homes, according to an official from “Nwe Oo Mittar”, an organization which supports displaced persons.
“No one is left in the villages in Thane Naw village tract. All of them have already run away. There has been artillery and air assaults every day. On the ground armed clashes also take place every day,” said the official.
The number of displaced persons has increased but the number of donors has declined forcing organizations to provide food support to only 1,200 of the displaced persons.
“There is not enough food for all displaced persons. The armed clash is still ongoing and only a few donors visit and support the displaced persons. Medicines for diabetes and hypertension are urgently in need,” said a local resident.
The junta has also restricted transportation of food and medicine to villages in Tenasserim Division and there are extensive security checks at every check-point.
According to a report by the FE5 Tanintharyi on April 13th, 2024, there were more than 54,000 displaced persons in Tenasserim Township.
