HURFOM: There has been increasing worry about armed clashes in Southern Ye Township, Mon State causing high school students from the township to move to big cities to continue their education in the coming academic year.

The school season is approaching but there is no sign of any decline in armed clashes. So parents who are wealthy have decided to move their children to big cities. Most of the high school students have moved to Mawlamyine or Mudon cities,” said a parent from Maw Ka Nin village.

There has been more and more presence of the New Mon State Party (AD – Anti military Dictatorship) and other resistance forces in Southern Ye Township and these forces frequently attack military bases.

Since the NMSP (AD) has joined the armed revolution, the villagers think there will be more armed clashes in Southern Ye Township. That’s why they are sending their children to other big cities so they can continue their education,” said a parent.

Both government schools and Mon national high schools are located in Southern Ye Township but most high school students have moved to the Mon national high school in the “Nyi Sar ” region, which is a liberated area controlled by the NMSP or private high schools located in big cities.
