Armed clash forces villagers to flee

HURFOM: On May 2nd, 2024, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the resistance forces near Maung Mae Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division. Due to the fighting nearly the entire village was forced to flee their homes.
The 304rth artillery regiment launched artillery attacks targeting the village, forcing the villagers to flee for safe shelter.
“Many villagers run to the city. No one is left in the village due to the artillery attack. Now, the situation is getting stable and some villagers have returned home. They’ll gradually come back,” said a villager.
Maung Mae Shaung has more than 1,000 houses and is just seven miles away from Dawei City. Most of the displaced persons have found shelter at their relatives’ houses in Dawei City.
In March, 2024, the entire village had to flee home due to another heavy armed clash.
