Ten residents arrested after being accused of supporting PDF in Ye Township

HURFOM: From January 22nd to 26th, 2024, more than ten residents from Ah Sin and Zee Phyu Taung villages, Ye Township, Mon State were arrested by the military junta after being accused of supporting the People’s Defense Force.

On January 22nd, 2024, the owner of “Shwe Taung Gyi” restaurant, Ko Nay Pine and two of his staff were arrested. The junta also used a huge force to arrest a couple in Zee Phyu Taung village later that night.

Junta attacks Long Lone City forcing residents to flee home

HURFOM: Since January 31st, 2024, the military junta has been targeting Long Lone City, Tenasserim Division with indiscriminate artillery attacks, forcing many residents to flee their homes.

More than 20 villagers arrested In Yebyu, all released except mother and child

HURFOM: On February 4rth, 2024, the military junta arrested more than 20 local villagers in Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division. Approximately 50 troops entered Tha Pyae Zoon and Min Dut villages, then brought them to Yat Daw Mu Pagoda (Standing Buddha) on the west riverbank of Yebyu Township.

Nearly 20 civilians killed or injured by junta’s artillery attacks within a month

HURFOM: In January, 2024, nearly 20 civilians from Kyike Hto, Bilin and Thaton Townships, Thaton District, Mon State were killed or injured by the military junta’s artillery attacks, reported the Thaton District Karen National Union (KNU).

The military junta launched at least 58 artillery attacks and two air assaults within a month in January, 2024.

Two students injured by junta’s artillery attack in Hpa-An Township

February 5, 2024

HURFOM: The Karen National Union has reported that on January 30th, 2024, two students from Pha Lan Taung village, Hpa-An Township, Karen State, were injured by a junta’s artillery attack.  The township is under the control of the Brigade #1 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

The KNLA has been battling the military junta in Win Tar Ban village, Bilin Township, Mon State.  In response to this challenge, the military junta launched at least 30 artillery attacks targeting townships under KNLA control.

Civilians injured, houses damaged in armed clash in Thanbyuzayat Township

February 5, 2024

HURFOM: On January 31, 2024, joint revolutionary forces attacked two police stations in Ah Nin and Htin Shu villages, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State and an intense battle ensued with the military junta.

The military junta launched air assaults and injured at least three civilians. The victims were a novice, a 40-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman. Additionally, at least two houses were damaged by the air assaults.

The human rights situation in Southeastern Burma has continued to deteriorate as civilians are routinely forced to flee. Their villages have turned into battlegrounds, and where generations of homes once settled into a safe community have now led to separated families and widespread uncertainty. In addition, unmet needs on the ground are growing daily. In target areas of the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), including Mon State, Karen State and the Tanintharyi region, our documentation indicates that while the junta is losing significant battles and bases, they are retaliating by increasing their attacks against an unarmed, innocent population.
