Schools in Yebyu close due to intense armed clashes

September 12, 2025

HURFOM: Since August, 2025, the junta’s army has reinforced their troops and is conducting a military advance in Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division, creating heavy and constant armed conflict with the joint revolutionary forces. The army has also launched indiscriminate artillery attacks targeting residential areas forcing residents to flee their homes.

The result is that schools in Yebyu have had to close.

There are constant military tensions in Kywe Ta Lin, Ma Yan Chaung, Thar Yar Mon, Ye Bu Yaw Thit, Yar Phu, Ywell Tie, Kyauk Ka Din, Ah Lell Sa Khan, Pha Yar Tone Zu and Sein Bone villages and schools in these areas are unable to operate.

Most children can’t go to school. If the condition is getting stable, every student will go back home and join the schools. But the armed clashes are still happening at the moment. No one dares to go home,” said one parent from Yebyu Township.

A displaced parent said it is not okay to let her child join school in metropolitan areas.

We have to rent a house here. It’s costly to go to school here. As we don’t have money, we can’t afford the education cost. We’ll go back home if the condition is getting stable. Now, my child has had to stop their studies,” said a displaced parent.

The armed conflict has been intense in Yebyu Township, and displaced communities face food scarcity due to their prolonged displacement.
