HURFOM: On May 10th, 2024, a military junta helicopter flew a patrol over Ka Lane Aung Town, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division causing villagers to flee their homes in fear of an air assault.

Villagers have taken shelter at a monastery called “Shin Koe Shin” Pagoda in Ka Lane Aung Town.  Surprisingly, the board of trustees for the monastery has extorted 20,000 MMK per displaced villager claiming the funds are needed to pay for room rent.

We have no place to stay so we’ve come here for help. But the board of trustees said we can’t stay here free and have to pay a fee for room rent. We have no place to stay so we have to pay the money,” said a displaced villager.

Local sources reported that more than 100 displaced persons from Zin Bar village, Ka Lane Aung Township took shelter in the monastery.

The military helicopter has been patrolling over Zin Bar village since May 6th. Some villagers were unable to pay the money, and had to leave the monastery,” said a local source.

This week, the military junta launched air assaults on Tha Yet Chaung, Long Lone and Tenasserim Township and there have been injuries and casualties to civilians.
