Junta’s air assault kills 11 residents and forces thousands to flee

HURFOM: The armed clash between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army has intensified in Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State since December 1, 2023.
The junta launched air assaults that killed 11 residents and injured many people, according to a local source.

HURFOM: Local sources reported to HURFOM that at least seven residents from Thanbyuzayat Town, Mon State were arrested by the military junta on November 30th and December 1st, 2023.
On November 30th, while conducting interrogations the military junta arrested 44-year-old, U Mya Than who lives in the Aung Zay Ya extended Ward. A pistol and some bullets were confiscated from him.

HURFOM: Between November 10th and the 30th, 2023, the military junta and revolutionary forces engaged in armed clashes in Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State. Junta forces have targeted villages with both artillery and air assaults.
People including children have been killed and houses destroyed. As of today, more than 20,000 residents have fled their homes.

HURFOM: On December 1, 2023, the junta’s artillery attack killed a 42-year-old monk from the “Vendar Dana” monastery in Mi Ka Tit village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.

HURFOM: On November 28, 2023, a resident from Wall Lay village, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State stepped on a landmine and sustained an injury, according to the statement of the Karen National Union.
45-year-old U Min Min Oo went outside the village to pluck branches from a “Eugenia” plant for their livelihood. He stepped on a landmine that exploded causing injuries in both legs.

Children Heavily Targeted by Military Junta During Targeted Attacks Against Civilians in Southeastern Burma

Now, perhaps more than ever since the failed coup, it has become abundantly clear that the military junta is losing the war it started. Widespread opposition to the regime’s hostilities and attempted power-grab has resulted in military defections and a growing armed presence along the country’s borders. On October 27, 2023, the Northern Three Brotherhood Alliance started the 1027 military operation in Northern Shan State. The military junta has lost many of their bases as a result.
The 1027 operation is also impacting Southern Burma, with the military junta tightening security more than usual in the Mon and Tenasserim areas, reported one resident. Combined groups consisting of soldiers, police members and security forces in civilian clothes are aggressively interrogating people at both entry and exit checkpoints to Mawlamyine in Mon State.
