HURFOM: On November 28, 2023, a resident from Wall Lay village, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State stepped on a landmine and sustained an injury, according to the statement of the Karen National Union.

45-year-old U Min Min Oo went outside the village to pluck branches from a  “Eugenia” plant for their livelihood.  He stepped on a landmine that exploded causing injuries in both legs.

Landmine explosions have re-emerged in our area since the attempted coup. Now, there have been about 10 landmine victims. Ko Min Min was lucky as his injuries aren’t life-threatening. If possible, we want the landmines to be removed,” said a resident from Wall Lay village.

The KNU has accused junta’s troops stationed at “Wall Lay Strategic Hill” of planting landmines near the village in order to protect their base from the attack.

Others from the village have also been injured due to the ongoing conflict. On November 27, 2023, two novices aged 14 and 16, from the monastery in An Pha Lay village, Kaw Ka Rate Township were injured by a military artillery attack.
