Seven residents arrested within two days in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: Local sources reported to HURFOM that at least seven residents from Thanbyuzayat Town, Mon State were arrested by the military junta on November 30th and December 1st, 2023.

On November 30th, while conducting interrogations the military junta arrested 44-year-old, U Mya Than who lives in the Aung Zay Ya extended Ward.  A pistol and some bullets were confiscated from him.

The junta also used an excessive number of troops to forcefully enter a building owned by “Hey Ma Wun” Construction and arrest the owner the same night.

On December 1st, an additional five persons, owners of a grocery store and gold shop, were also arrested.

They were arrested after being accused of having connections with the PDF and supporting them with guns,” said a Thanbyuzayat resident.

The arrested victims were detained and interrogated at the Thanbyuzayat Town Police Station. Family members have not been permitted contact. 

In a village nearby Thanbyuzayat, the junta was unable to locate another individual, so they arrested the person’s two daughters. They came to the village by military trucks and they even arrested former police members,” said a resident from a nearby village.

Since February 1, 2021, the military junta has arrested more than 800 residents from Mon State, according to the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (AAPP).
