HURFOM: On December 1, 2023, the junta’s artillery attack killed a 42-year-old monk from the “Vendar Dana” monastery in Mi Ka Tit village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.
Armed clashes between the military junta and the revolutionary forces started on November 10th, 2023 and have been ongoing for nearly a month, causing more than 20,000 residents to flee from their homes.
Another 600 residents from the Kaw Doon, Kaw Pa Naw, Kaw One, Well Ngae and Mel Garow villages, in Kyikemayaw Township also fled their homes again on December 1, 2023.
“The elderly people are still left in the villages in Kaw Doon and Kaw Pa Naw. Those who have taken shelter at the monastery have food but villagers who fled to “Pyar Taung” Mount and the Mawlamyine Cement Factory do not have access to food,” said a displaced villager.
The constant artillery attacks by the junta have destroyed a monastery and at least two houses.
