HURFOM: The armed clash between the military junta and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army has intensified in Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State since December 1, 2023.
The junta launched air assaults that killed 11 residents and injured many people, according to a local source.
“The junta has been dropping bombs by aircraft, day and night for two consecutive days. Six residents were killed on December 1 and another five were killed on December 2. Many residents have sustained injuries. But we don’t know the exact number,” said a local source.
A few days prior to the armed clash, the revolutionary forces released a statement urging Kaw Ka Rate residents to move out of the town. Although many residents did evacuate, some remained.
“Those who couldn’t leave are stuck in the wards. The junta has been dropping bombs very frequently so now they must flee. The number of those impacted is in the thousands. They need lots of help,” said a source close to the Kaw Ka Rate residents who fled.
The junta has cut off telecommunication networks in Kaw Ka Rate Town and nearby villages.
