Mawlamyine Residents Abducted for Forced Conscription by Junta Forces

HURFOM: In Mawlamyine, Mon State, ten local men were forcibly arrested and taken for military conscription as part of the junta’s 18th batch of the People’s Military Service training course. The arrests occurred on the evening of September 23, near the traditional hospital, located between Myain Tharyar Ward and Phak Khin Ward. Witnesses reported that junta soldiers surrounded the area around 6:30 p.m., detained the men, and drove them away in a black private car to the Southeastern Military Command.

Ten boys arrested after Lamine administrative officials shot and killed

HURFOM: On September 28^th, 2025, Administrator U Kyaw Oo and Hundred-Household Leader U Than Win from Myo Ma (1) Ward, Lamine Town, Ye Township, Mon State were shot and killed.

After the incident, the junta’s army blocked the Lamine – Thaung Pyi, the Lamine – Maw Ka Nin and the Lamine – Kawdut roads and arrested at least ten young boys.

Eight-year-old girl repeatedly raped in Long Lone

HURFOM: During the rainy season (from June to September) in 2025, an eight-year-and-six-month-old girl from Kyauk Sin village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division was raped at least six times by 50-year-old U Zaw Zaw who lived in the same village.

Military Officers Embedded in Civilian Committees as Junta Tightens Control in Mon State

HURFOM: In Mon State, the junta has tightened its grip on civilian life by embedding military officers into township administration and management committees as part of its preparations for a sham election. Officers at the rank of Major are no longer just sitting as representatives, but are also taking leadership positions across key departments.

Monthly Overview: Destruction of Properties by the Military Junta Forces Thousands to Flee as the Displacement Crisis in Southeastern Burma Worsens 

Throughout September, cases documented by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) revealed an alarming rise in fears and insecurities in communities across targeted areas of Mon State, Karen State, and the Tanintharyi Region. The junta’s ongoing attacks are worsening and thus contributing to continued concerns over livelihoods and survival. Children are not safe attending school as they are targeted in airstrikes. Doctors and nurses face ongoing threats to their lives and those of their patients, and mortar shells frequently target their clinics. Even sacred places of religious worship have been targeted in violent attacks. No one feels safe. 

The ongoing presence and movement of junta troops through villages have left local communities living in constant uncertainty, with many forced to abandon their homes and seek safety elsewhere. Despite repeated displacement and loss, villagers continue to face harassment, arrests, and killings at the hands of junta troops. For many, even the simple act of trying to return home to collect belongings or feed animals has now become a life-threatening risk.

Continuous fighting in Yebyu Township has forced nearly 4,000 villagers from 10 villages to flee their homes, in urgent need of emergency assistance. From August 15 to August 28, clashes broke out almost daily near Mayan Chaung village between junta forces and allied resistance groups, including Mon, Karen, and Dawei revolutionary forces.

Junta Restrictions on Migrant Worker Passports Spark Fears Among Myanmar Workers in Thailand

HURFOM: Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand, who recently converted their Certificates of Identity (CI) into “Passports for Job” (PJ), are now being issued travel documents stamped “Passport for Thailand Only.” This restriction, enforced by the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok under junta control, means workers can no longer use these passports to travel outside of Thailand.

The CI booklet, unlike a standard passport, is a temporary identity document issued by the junta-backed authorities to enable migrants in Thailand to work and reside legally. Previously, workers who converted their CI into a PJ passport could also travel to neighbouring countries. However, as of September 26, the embassy has begun issuing PJ passports, which are valid only within Thailand.

“This makes things very difficult for anyone who hoped to leave Thailand through this process. Now it’s restricted only to Thailand,” explained one migrant worker who went through the procedure.

Two Villagers Arrested Near Winwa Checkpoint in Tha Yet Chaung Township

HURFOM: In Tha Yet Chaung Township, two young men from Kanet Thiri Village were arrested by junta soldiers near the Winwa checkpoint along the Dawei–Myeik road.

According to local residents, the men were stopped and detained close to the Winwa bridge near the military checkpoint at around 6 p.m. on September 23 as they were returning home from Sone Sin Village.

Junta Troops Stationed in Than Payar Village Force Civilians to Flee

Kyarinnseikgyi Township, Karen State
HURFOM: The military junta has stationed troops inside Than Payar Village, located along the Mudon–Kyarinnseikgyi–Payar Thone Zu (Three Pagodas Pass) road in Kyarinnseikgyi Township, forcing hundreds of civilians from Mon and Karen communities to flee their homes in fear.

Military movement and presence frighten local villagers in Phar Lane area, Ye Township

HURFOM: On September 19^th, 2025, the junta’s army had battled with the joint resistance forces in Phar Lane area, Ye Township, Mon State.

After the battle, the army has been active around Ah Baw, Du Yar, Gu Ga Taw, Paline Thane, Hnee Hnuu, Thar Gram and An Dinn village. Moreover, the junta’s troops have been “hiding in ambush” in and nearby rubber plantation so that the local villagers and plantation workers are worrying about their security and safety.

Seven Civilians Injured and Monastery Damaged in Junta Artillery Strikes in Kyon Doe Township, Kawkareik District

HURFOM: On September 23, junta troops from Light Infantry Battalion No. 545 launched artillery strikes targeting Koh Dae Sai and Koh Wah Boe villages in Kyon Paing village tract, Kyon Doe Township, Kawkareik District, Karen State. According to local residents, the shelling left seven villagers injured and badly damaged the Buddhist monastery in Koh Dae Sai.
