HURFOM: Since April 20th, 2025, there have been repeated armed clashes and a huge displacement of people in Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division. As a result, the Mon summer school program has been canceled due to insecurity in the area.
According to locals, the Mon summer school program in Mon villages such as Ah Lell Sa Khan, Yar Phu, Kyauk Ta Lin, Kyauk Ka Din, Sin Swell, Thar Yar Mon, Tin Gan Taw and other villages have been canceled recently. The same situation occurred for the summer school program last year.

“It’s the same as last year. I couldn’t hold the exam for the summer school program. We had to cancel it. Now, the exam is about to come and the armed clashes have broken out. The villagers have to run away and the children can’t join the program. So we have to cancel it,” said a local villager.
Yebyu Township has more than 30 Mon villages and there were more than 500 Mon students before the attempted coup. Now, there will be only 200 students.
The final exam for the entire Mon summer school program will be held on May 22nd, 2025 in Pegu, Mawlamyine, Thanbyuzayat, Ye and Tenasserim regions in Burma and in Bangkok in Thailand. It is expected that 4,509 Mon students will sit for the exam.
