Six villagers injured by junta’s artillery attack in Ye Township

HURFOM: At about 3 pm on September 12, 2023, the local military junta launched an artillery attack on Kyaung Yaw village, Ye Township, Mon State and injured six villagers.

The People’s Defense Force attacked the 583rd Kyaung Yaw based Light Infantry Battalion at 2 pm and the battalion responded by targeting the village. Houses and the market were damaged, with villagers sustaining injuries.

Junta collects names from household list in Long Lone for election

The military council is conducting a nationwide census for their election initiative in the third week of August, 2023.  The council declared the process would continue up to October, 2024.

Since September 7, 2023, the junta has forcefully been collecting names from the household list in Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.

Numbers of IDP rises to over 6,000 in Long Lone

HURFOM: According to IDP (internally displaced persons) support and rescue team members,

between March and August, 2023, more than 6,000 villagers from Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division fled from their homes due to armed conflict.

The military junta began operations in Long Lone Township on March 3, 2023 and they launched artillery attacks on villages, burnt down homes and arrested villagers. Nearly 6,500 residents from Out Kyouk Wat, Kyouk Wat Pyin and Nyaung Pyin villages had to flee from their homes.

Junta puts more restriction on jailed political prisoners

HURFOM: The military junta has again put restrictions on political prisoners detained in the Kyikemayaw Central Prison in Mon State and the Dawei Prison in Tenasserim. Prison authorities banned or restricted family members or others from sending food, visits and access to health services.

In July and August, 2023, the military junta imposed other restrictions, following a review of prisons.

Three Kan Bauk residents accused of providing financial support to PDF

HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, three family members from Mya Thidar Ward, Kan Bauk Town, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division were arrested by the military junta after being accused of providing financial support to the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

Neighbours told HURFOM that the family was robbed by armed gunmen.

Junta launches military operation and arrests nearly 20 villagers in Paung

HURFOM: On September 6, 2023, the military junta launched a military operation in Oak Tan Dar and surrounding villages, Paung Township, Mon State and arrested nearly 20 villagers.

At the end of August, 2023, the junta-appointed village Administrator and police members were shot and killed and the police station and the Township General Administration Department Office were attacked.

Plantation owners/workers worry harvest operations threatened by on-going military conflict

HURFOM: Armed clashes between the Burmese army and the revolutionary forces have been increasing in Ye Township, Mon State, leaving rubber plantation owners to abandon their workplaces due to security concerns.

They have been unable to do any regular maintenance and fertilization of their plantation.

Now, harvest season is approaching but armed clashes occur often, and owners are worried they will not be able to start harvesting operations.

Married couple arrested due to pro-military informers in Thaton

HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, the military junta arrested a married couple living in Thane Gone Ward, Thaton Town, Mon State after accusing them of sharing information with the People’s Defense Forces.

The junta used excessive force when they raided their home and arrested 34-year-old Ko Min Zayar and his 34-year-old wife Ma Honey Kyaw.
