HURFOM: Since October 28th, 2024, a junta’s regiment has launched military operations in villages in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division. The junta forces have burnt down houses, looted valuables from the houses of displaced villagers. They also shot and killed a local villager, according to local sources.
The regiment reached Tha Yet Chaung Hna Kwa village on October 25th and stationed themselves at the village monastery. On October 28th, a regiment consisting of 70 troops started a military operation to Oak Tu village.
According to one displaced woman, they burnt down and destroyed three houses and arrested a monk and villagers.
“Before entering the village, soldiers stationed at “Mell Nell Old” launched an artillery attack first. They entered the community and arrested villagers, tying their hands behind their backs. Then, another regiment entered the village and burgled every house, looted valuables from the houses,” said the woman.
The artillery attack burnt down and destroyed the village monastery in Tha Yet Chaung Hna Kwa village and the residents had to flee home.
“As they’re on the run, some displaced villagers have lost contact with their family members,” said a member of the People’s Defense Force.
On October 29th, while riding his motorbike, a 30-year-old man from Yan Taung village encountered junta’s soldiers who were carrying away the belongings of displaced villagers with three lorry trucks. He was shot and killed by the soldiers.
“After shooting and killing him, they buried his body beside the road,” said a resident.
The arrested Oak Tu villagers were released on October 29th and junta forces then moved to Tha Yet Chaung Hna Kaw on October 31st.
