Many children suffer from dengue fever in Mon State

HURFOM: Many children in Mon State are suffering from dengue fever which is very common in the rainy season. The number of child patients is increasing day after day, according to the sources from the Mawlamyine General Hospital.
There have been more than 1,000 dengue fever patients since June, 2024 and about 20 children per day have been admitted to the maternal and child department (aka American Hospital) of the Mawlamyine General Hospital, according to a nurse from the hospital.

HURFOM: On June 18th, 2024, a regiment of about 200 troops launched military operations in villages in Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division forcing more than 10,000 residents to flee their homes.
The junta has military operations in Zar D, Khaung Pyan, Dike Ta Kor, Kyauk Hta Yan, Khway Ma Phaw, Kha Yin Chaung, Pa Ya villages in Yebyu area and A Ka Ni, Kha Maung Chaung, Lell Shaung, Ba War, Para Dat, Htein Gyi and Ya Line villages in Na Bu Lell area.

HURFOM: In June, 2024, a local armed group suspended a monastic school in Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.
Local villagers reported HURFOM that “the school had started to operate in June but local armed group ordered to close the school. The school had about 450 children. The students’ parents are feeling upset.”

HURFOM: On July 1st, 2024, a junta regiment arrested eight residents as part of a military operation that took place in the Dawei Special Economic Zone near Zar D village, Kan Bauk village track, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
On July 3rd, 2024, the dead body of 39-year-old Ko Nine Nine from Khaung Pyan village, Zar D village track was found in a nearby stream.

Throughout the first week of July, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) observed worrying patterns of violence against women and girls in target areas of Mon State, Karen State and the Tanintharyi region.
At the end of June, HURFOM’s latest volume of ‘Voice Up’ also presented evidence of the rise in targeted gendered attacks. Further, a new report released by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar on the gendered impacts of the coup found, “The threat of sexual and gender-based violence is a dark shadow that follows women, girls, and LGBT people throughout Myanmar.”

HURFOM: Due to the armed clash between the military junta and the joint resistance forces on November 10th, 2023, more than 3,000 residents from Chaung Hna Kwa, Taung Ka Lay, Kyauk Twelve, Mell Ta Yoe and Hpat Tay Gone villages, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon Sate have fled from their homes.
There has been no armed clash in the area for more than eight months, but more than 800 displaced villagers from Chaung Hna Kaw village are still unable to return to their homes.

HURFOM: At about 8 pm on June 29th, 2024, military junta troops conducted a door-to-door night search in some wards in Lamine Town, Ye Township, Mon State that frightened local residents.
The junta conducted the search after the Maw Ka Nin based, 106th light infantry battalion was attacked by resistance forces. Junta forces claimed they were checking for men staying in the houses.

HURFOM: On June 29th, 2024, the 310th regiment battalion based in Thane Za Yet launched eight indiscriminate artillery attacks on Yay Kyaw village, which is located in Thane Za Yet Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State. The attacks killed a novice and severely injured a local woman.
