Junta’s air strike injures five villagers in Kaw Ka Rate

HURFOM: On March 4th and 5th, 2025, the military junta launched airstrikes targeting villages in Southern Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.   The air assaults injured five villagers including a child.

On March 4th, three military fighter jets from the “Hmaw Bee” military airport shot three rockets at Bot Die village, Southern Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State. One of the rocket explosions injured a 40-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy. A school also had some damage.

Junta’s artillery attack injures child in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: At about 1 am on March 4th, 2025, the Thane Za Yat based 310th artillery battalion launched at least ten 120-mm artillery attacks on villages in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State even though there was no active armed clash in the area.

Khaw Zar residents limited to two hours/day of electrical service: Bill still rises to 3,400 MMK per kWh

HURFOM: In February, 2025, residents from Khaw Zar Town, Ye Township, Mon State received electricity for only two hours a day, but their bills increased to 3,400 MMK per kWh

The electricity company collected 3,050 MMK per kWh in January, 2025.  The company announced they would collect 3,400 MMK per kWh starting February, 2025 due to the high price of gasoline.

HURFOM: On March 3rd, 2025, the military junta launched an air assault on Win Ka Phaw village, Taung Pyauk village tract, located in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.  There was no active armed clash in the area.  The attack injured four villagers including a father and son.

Junta’s air assault injures three women including two teenagers in Tenasserim

HURFOM: On March 3rd, 2025, even though there was no active armed clash, the military junta dropped two bombs on Tha Mee Hla village, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division.  The air assault injured three local women including a 12-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, and an elderly woman Phwar Khin Sein.

Junta arrests 15 young men travelling by express bus in Bilin

March 5, 2025

HURFOM: At about 5 pm on February 24th, 2025, the military junta’s “Tan Da Dar (Iron Bridge)” security gate located in Tha Pyay Ne village, Bilin Township, Mon State stopped an express bus travelling on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road.

Junta troops arrested 15 young men on the bus and took them into custody. 

As far as I know, they intentionally targeted those 15 young men. They did nothing with the other remaining passengers and the driver,” said a local source.

The men had just escaped from a call-scam gang operating in Myawaddy, Karen State and were attempting to return to their homes.

The arrested included many Yangon residents. There were also residents from Mandalay and Irrawaddy Divisions. We do not know their current whereabouts,” said a source familiar with the matter.

However, villagers told HURFOM that the military junta intentionally arrested the 15 young men and forced them to join the 11th batch of the military training for conscripts.

Junta’s troops torch six houses in Ye Chaung Pyar region

HURFOM: From February 27th to March 1st, 2025, the military junta’s troops burnt down six houses in Kan Hla village, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State. The junta claims that armed revolutionary forces temporarily stayed at those houses.

Human Rights Situation in Mon State, Karen State & Tanintharyi Region, February 2025

Over the past month, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) has observed a concerning escalation in attacks on women and children. The worsening instability throughout Burma indicates that the junta has vastly underestimated the resistance it would encounter in its illegal and unlawful attempt to seize power. As the regime struggles on the battlefield, it has deployed retaliatory strategies that isolate and impact the most vulnerable. Women, children, and the elderly are being targeted in unprovoked airstrikes and indiscriminate attacks, as the junta aims to use violence as a tool of terror. 

At the beginning of the month, In Ye Township, Mon State, three women, including two internally displaced persons (IDPs), were injured when junta troops indiscriminately fired heavy artillery into Wapathae Village, Baelamu Village Tract, despite no active fighting in the area. On the night of January 24, troops from the Junta’s Artillery Regiment No. 317, based in Ye Township, launched five artillery shells into Wapathae Village.
