Junta’s artillery attack kills local woman and injures child in Kyone Doe

HURFOM: On February 1^st, 2025, an artillery regiment operating under the 12^th military operation’s command targeted Phar Kya village, Kyone Doe Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State with a 170-mm artillery attack. Artillery shells exploded at a nearby rubber plantation.

Teachers convinces university students to join pre-military training

HURFOM: At the Mawlamyine University, Mawlamyine City, Mon State, some teachers are convincing students to join pre-military training, claiming that those who register for pre-military training will not be collected as conscripts. The teachers also claim students will be free from taxes and can apply for driving licenses without any requirements.

3,000 displaced Phar Pon residents run out of food

HURFOM: In the first week of December, 2024, an intense battle broke out between the military junta and the Karen National Liberation Army near Ka Tie Teak village, Phar Pon Township, Karen State.  More than 3,000 residents had to flee their homes and take shelter in Bilin Township, Mon State.

Collecting household document data in downtown wards worries local residents

HURFOM: Currently, village and ward Administration teams are collecting copies of household lists in the downtown wards in Mawlamyine and Paung Cities, Mon State. Authorities said they are collecting the data to clarify the exact number of household members and family members who went abroad, but this unusual activity has created fear and worry amongst community members.

HURFOM: On January 25^th and 26^th, 2025, junta forces from the 285^th Light Infantry Battalion were conducting a night patrol and arrested nine residents from Pu Law Town, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division.

HURFOM: On January 27^th, 2025, a junta’s regiment consisting of about 80 troops launched military operations in Chaung Wa Pyin and nearby villages, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.

Five women injured by junta’s artillery and drone attacks in Tenasserim

HURFOM: At about 3 pm on January 29^th, 2025, the 306^th artillery regiment, which is based in the village of Maw Tone targeted Lell Taung Yar and Nyaung Pin Gone villages, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division with artillery and drones’ attacks.

Junta collects list of students 18 years of age in Chaung Zone: Parents suspect it will be used to force conscription

HURFOM: On January 27^th, 2025, junta’s forces and the village and ward administrators reached the Basic Education High Schools in Chaung Zone Township, Mon State and collected a list of the students who have already turned 18 years for conscription.

Only one third of displaced students return to school

HURFOM: On January 9^th, 2025, an intense armed clash took place in Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State, and six government schools in five villages had to be closed.

More than 600 students fled from their homes with their parents, and most were unable to return to school due to livelihood and financial challenges.
