Adult man arrested by junta not released yet in Long Lone

HURFOM: On March 2nd, 2024, a regiment with about 60 troops launched a military operation in Tha Bot Sake and Pyin Gyi villages, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division and arrested approximately 20 local villagers.

Women and children were amongst those arrested.

Junta’s security forces extort “Kratom leaf” users

HURFOM: According to a member of the Mudon Village/Ward Administration Department, junta’s security forces have been interrogating, extorting and arresting individuals who have substance misuse issues with “Kratom leaf”.

These individuals are present in villages across Mon State and are being extorted for millions of MMK.

Junta’s troops shoot villager and steal from 100 houses in Yebyu

HURFOM: On March 3rd, 2024, a military regiment with nearly 50 troops entered Ya Line village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division. During their invasion, the junta shot and injured a villager and burgled more than 100 houses.  They looted many valuable things, local villagers told HURFOM.

Civilian injured and two houses destroyed in explosion of “Moe Kaung” Bridge

HRUFOM: On February 28th, 2024, the “Moe Kaung” Bridge located on the Yangon – Mawlamyine Highway Road nearby Moe Kaung village, Thaton Township, Mon State was blown up by a mine. Two houses and two shops were also destroyed and a 30-year-old man was injured during the explosion.

Arbitrary Arrests and Unlawful Detainment by the Military Junta On the Rise in Southeastern Burma as Women and Children Are Targeted

Three years since the attempted coup in Burma was marked on 1 February 2024. Thousands have been killed and injured, and many more remain imprisoned on falsified and unjust charges. The economic situation has spiralled due to the junta’s failed policies and has consequently led to inflation, with prices soaring far beyond the means of many households. In addition, social services, including health care and education, have been eroded through corruption and attacks.

In a statement released by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), calls were made to end these attacks immediately and for the international community, including donors and policymakers, to focus on what is next to support human rights defenders and pro-democracy advocates. These stakeholders must engage with local civil society organizations on what steps they can take to ensure they are on the right side of history.

Civil Disobedience Movement member and vendor arrested in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: In the last week of February, 2024, a schoolteacher who joined the “Civil Disobedience Movement – CDM” and a male vendor from Kyike Hto Township, Mon State were arrested by the military junta.

On February 21st, 35-year-old CDM schoolteacher, Daw Phyu Phyu Khine from Mell Yone Gyi village was arrested by the junta at the “Lat Pya” check-point in Kyike Hto City.

Junta’s troops recklessly shoot and injure villager in Bilin

February 29, 2024

HRUFOM: On February 25th, 2024, the 409th Light Infantry Battalion based in Win Tar Ban village, Bilin Township, Mon State, recklessly shot and injured a villager.

According to local sources and the Thaton District Karen National Union, junta troops shot 33-year-old Saw Cha Wall near the “Naung Ka Tote” stream. He sustained an injury to his left elbow.

Three civilians injured during armed attack at Mote Pa Lin Check-point

February 29, 2024

HURFOM: On February 23rd, 2024, the joint revolutionary forces attacked the soldiers and police forces stationed at the check-point near Mote Pa Lin village, Kyiek Hto Township, Mon State.

During the armed clash, two civilians and a 40-year-old female street vendor were shot and sustained injuries.
