January 19, 2024
HURFOM: On December 31st, 2023, the joint revolutionary forces in Southern Ye Township, Mon State announced they would accelerate military action in Ye Township and the rest of Mon State.
In response, the military junta deployed more troops and tightened security at the entrance and exit of Ye Town, according to the locals.
“There have been heavy battles in Kyikemayaw and Thaton Townships and the junta has not conducted“stop and check” in Ye for nearly two months. But now, security is tightened in both entrances and exits of the town,” said a resident.
On January 10th, 2024, the joint revolutionary forces distributed pamphlets in Ah Sin and Kyaung Yaw villages and the Strand Market in Ye Town urging Burmese soldiers to abandon the military junta.
“After the revolutionary forces delivered the pamphlets, security was tightened at Tha Dar Phyu Bridge and Ye – Mawlamyine Highway Road. They are mainly targeting the men,” said a Ye resident.
The joint revolutionary forces urge local people not to go on “unnecessary trips” and not to hold seasonal festivals because they will accelerate military actions in 2024.
“Soldiers, police forces and administrative officials are rushing to remove the pamphlets. We’re worried a lot about potential armed clashes,” said a resident.
In 2023, there have been more than 50 armed clashes between the military junta and joint revolutionary forces based in Southern Mon State.
