HURFOM: On December 27, 2023, a military regiment launched an operation in Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division and arrested ten residents from five villages.

I was hiding in the monastery when the military regiment entered the village but they found and arrested me. My hands were tied behind my back and I was beaten during the arrest. I was forced to accompany them and carry their food and things,” said a villager who has recently been released.

Those people who arrested were released are losing contact with their family members for (9) days. Those who were released from military council were also given 20,000 to 70,000 kyats by each to them.

When we arrived at Kyauk Ne Maw, they asked to give money to them each of us. In older terms, Porter was pulled,” said a recently-released villager who wants to remain anonymous.

Some of those arrested no longer feel safe in their villages and have fled to the Thai-Burma Border for their safety.
